The bugout guy on youtube goes full circle. He goes from maniac with a sword slashing targets, to being a jedi knight with a light saber. He then manages to injur himself. As Jerry says, he is right but he is an idiot. I am not sure what he was doing when he hurt himself. 21 foot rule going Jedi not sure what I am seeing here the explanation 121 fo... Read More...

It ... Read More...

I Want to Hit Something

Anyone that listens to the podcast knows that I am between schools. Although I have written articles on self training, I have been lax in doing it. A true martial artist should know themselves and I do. I need a class, a commitment, and a goal in order to train. There is a class that will be starting up soon or may already have by the time this is... Read More...

This weeks video shows us the 1972 assassination attempt of Imelda Marcos. Thanks Jerry for bringing this to our attention. Notice how many slashes and jabs this guy gets before he is shot and how many shots it takes for him to go down. The would be assassin was Carlito Dimahilig. Marcos required 75 stitches. Up and to the left If you have a video ... Read More...

Against the Judgment of many before me, I decided to give this one a watch. I got it from the library so the only thing it cost me was 2 hrs of time, so about $60. Well, I didn't watch it at work, so that two hours is worth more. I digress. The movie starts out real slow and it spells everything out to you. Apparently, there is a secret good guy o... Black Belt in Tae Bo

Cardio Kickboxing sounds tuff, doesn’t it? Without knowing what it was, you would probably describe it as a cardio intense or high energy form of Muay Thai. You would be half-right, I guess. My real question is, does cardio kickboxing have a place in martial arts schools or martial arts training. To answer this question I will look at three factor... Read More...

We have two videos for you this week. In the first, a kid playing with a sword cuts himself. I guess we should be glad that he and his friend never got around to the epic sword battle. Remember kids, even though those novelty swords are meant more for decoration than for use, they can still be very sharp. If you want to use them for filming your ep... Read More...

What is In the Bag? (Part 1, The Basics) was written several years back. Although it is still very relevant there are a couple of things that I would like to add to the list, a few items I would like to clarify, and an entirely new optional set of categories to expand upon. Rather than recommending you go back and reread the previous article, I wil... Read More...

In martial arts the “empty cup” parable is often touted to those learning new styles and learning under new instructors. The parable goes that a western philosophy professor wanting to learn Zen principles approaches a Zen master. The professor argues the principles that he is given. Finally, the Zen master sits the professor down for tea. They ar... Read More...
